Finding time to exercise can be a battle for new mothers. But a Melbourne fitness group believes it has the answer: bring bub to your workout. Bay City Strollers incorporates baby into exercise sessions, from pushing the pram on a brisk walk to sitting on mum’s tummy while she does strengthening exercises on a mat.

Bay City Strollers director Todd King said the workouts helped women recover from the physical rigours of childbirth and regain their figures. But he said the mental stimulation was just as important.

“One of the greatest benefits that we see with the mums is the social networks they develop,” Mr King said. “Just being able to get out of the house, enjoy a stimulating environment and share some stories with other mums – as well as getting a great workout – is hugely rewarding.” He said their youngsters also benefited, enjoying the interaction with other babies.

Sessions are run in Ascot Vale, Clifton Hill, Elwood, Hawthorn, South Yarra, Williamstown and Yarraville, with a casual 60-minute class costing $20.
